Story behind the culture
Huli Opene.
In Papua New Guinea, Huli and Opene were brothers some hundreds of years ago. Huli are the people who are now called Hela province,Tari is the capital, where the major LNG project is. Opene on the other end, are the people of Enga Province, where Pogera Gold is now. Huli have about 3 languages, but Enga have only one.
Years ago, Opene migrated to Enga in search for food, while Huli remain behind.
Both Huli and Opene have natural hair in the past. They never cut their hair since
they were born. If they had curly hair, it would have fallen down touching the ground. They only packed the hair so it would never fall like women, and decorated it with birds feathers and bush farns.
Huli has colour full dressings, with their hat shaped like the wings of a bird. The real Huli and Opene, had natural hair, but today's Huli and Opene collected hair from friends to build their traditional hat.
Opene are all black, and when they dance, they stayed in one place jumping up and down, while Opene moved aroundjumping.
They both, or both provinces are still fighting to keep their traditions strong. Some of their traditions they still keep even though they are well educated
1. No women, nor girl to jump over food
It was, and is there traditions that no females are to jumped over food, so men could eat. If they ate such food, they will catch the first bullets when on a battle
2. Women on mensuration period, never to touch food, or eating utensils so men could eat.
The real reason as number 1 above. Because of this two reasons men never trust their wives with their food. They only ate food that was cooked by themselves or their mum.
3. Never to burn a house when people are still inside during a fighter
Or the gods will not be on there side.
4. Never to slip with any of their relatives
Or they will pay the same penalty as in reason 1
5. Never to have an affairs with a dead men's wife
6. No steal
Their are many more rules they follow, but this are just few major traditions they still keep. If they broke any of these, the men, or boys 18 years and above, they attended a meeting with their elders at the House Man and confess their sins. Their are many punishment of course, like sleeping under a fallen waterfall and open your eyes wide.
Huli and Opene back home still practices their tradition, but the guys living in the cities, and were employed, bloody hell with them. They forgets everything what their parents thought them. They ate white food like a pig and didn't do any exercise all. They can't even do road runs. Sitting at home, sitting in the office, sitting in the car. They can't even stood up to get their own glass of water.
Because of brothers love from the beginning, the Opene, Sir Peter Ipatasappointed Huli, James Marape, to be the next Prime Minister, and he won, and today Huli Opene runs the country PNG
